WHY TRAINING VIDEOS ARE IMPORTANT

Your old training videos aren’t going to cut it

We’ve all been there…starting a new job and having to sit through endless PowerPoint training videos with boring content and bad voice-over. Your only hope is that the video allows you to press “skip” immediately so you can move on to the next soul-crushing slide. Pray that you aren’t stuck with the kind that doesn’t allow you to skip ahead. When it says that it will take 45 minutes to complete, it will ACTUALLY take 45 minutes because you have to sit through it in its entirety. THERE IS NO ESCAPE.

How much did you actually learn or retain from those videos? Probably nothing. Either you skipped through them, or if you were forced to stick it out; you were on your phone and not paying attention.

Is this a worthwhile use of ANYONE’S time?

Instead of the usual boring old static picture + voice-over training videos, why not create something dynamic? Something that will be more engaging for your viewers, so that they actually watch and digest the information. Isn’t that why we’re here?

Studies have shown that our brains retain significantly more information when it is presented in video format as opposed to text and pictures. With our ever-dwindling attention spans, video learning has become of the utmost importance. It is a strong tool that is unfortunately often underutilized. A new employee isn’t likely to sit through a PowerPoint presentation or read a manual, but they will watch an engaging and well-produced training video. And they will remember the content as well.

What can be done??? Well for starters, create visually exciting, content-driven training videos. Approach your training videos like they’re mini-movies. Hire video production professionals that can bring your vision to life. Pre-production (concept development, planning, scripting, location scouting), Production (dynamic lighting, engaged talent, great cameras and microphones), Post Production (editing, music, motion graphics, color correction), and delivery of the final product. Do it right. Hire the right video production team to ensure you do it right. Stop wasting your time. If you build it, they will learn.
